Launch of the Women’s Leadership project

On December 4 the Women’s Leadership Forum launched the Women’s Leadership project sponsored by the US National Democratic Institute.

The first phase of the project consists of a series of trainings in participation of 30 women and girls who represent non-governmental organizations, political parties, state and private institutions, and students.

The first phase of the project will last till March 2009.

The purpose of the project is to improve the leadership skills of young women.

In support of the US National Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the second training of the Women’s Leadership project.

The head of Yerevan and Nagorno Karabakh offices of the Armenian Assembly of America Arpi Vardanyan welcomed the participants.

11.02.2009

In support of the US national Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the third training of the Women’s Leadership project.

Ms. Marie L. Yovanovitch, the Ambassador of the United States in Armenia, welcomed the participants of the training and attached importance to the series of trainings. Mrs. Naira Sultanyan, political officer representing the Embassy of the Great Britain in Armenia welcomed the participants and spoke to them on the topic of International Community.

In support of the US national Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the fourth training of the Women’s Leadership project.

Larisa Alaverdyan, secretary of Heritage faction and the first ombudsman of Armenia, welcomed and encouraged the participants. The training was conducted by Gayane Markosyan, President of Free Forum for Civil Initiatives NGO, and Avetik Ishkhanyan, head of the Helsinki Committee of Armenia. The topic of the training was Principles of Democracy, during which the participants received not only theoretical knowledge, but practical skills as well.

 

14.04.2009
In support of the US National Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the fifth training of the Women’s Leadership project.
Richard Giragosian, the head of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies welcomed the participants and made a presentation. The topic of the training was Gender Issues. The training was conducted by Karine Hakobyan, president of Reform NGO. MP Heghine Bisharyan, the Head of the Legal State Faction and party’s candidate for Yerevan mayoral election was invited to the event to talk to the participants and to share her opinion regarding the issue. As a result of the training the participants received theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as were encouraged to participate in political processes. 

 







 

 

16.05.2009
NDI organized a Clean Community Action in Vayots-Dzor region. NDI’s Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board took active participation in the Clean Community event sponsored by NDI. The action took place in the vicinity of Noravank Church, one of the Armenia’s best sightseeing areas. The event included Yerevan-based and regional NGO representatives, political parties, local government representatives, etc. Approximately 170 activists from NGOs and political parties were in attendance of the event.

In support of the US National Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the seventh training of the Women’s Leadership project.
Zaruhi Postanjyan, member of the Heritage faction of the National Assembly, welcomed the participants of the training course and made a presentation. The topic of the training was Women’s Political Participation. The training was conducted by two trainers: Anoush Begloian, the Vice-President of the Armenian Public Relations Association, and Anahit Aghoyan, member of the National Democratic Union Bureau. As a result of the training the participants received theoretical and practical knowledge on leadership skills, women’s participation in political processes and the situation in Armenia.

In support of the US National Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the eighth training of the Women’s Leadership project.
The special guest of the event was Marina Chatinyan, Founding Director of Bars Real Estate Agency. Ms.Chatinyan spoke of women's traditional role in the society and encouraged women to be involved in civic and business activities. The training session devoted to Management and Development of Management Skills was conducted by Andranik Tevanyan, Director of Politeconomia Political, Economic and Legislative Research Institute and Anahit Sargsyan, President of Businesswoman NGO.

In support of the US National Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the ninth training of the Women’s Leadership project.
The special guest of the event was Davit Harutyunyan, Assistant to the Prime Minister of Armenia. Mr. Harutyunyan welcomed the participants and Women’s Board members signifying the importance of such initiatives. In his speech he emphasized that women’s role should not be limited in the society. The training session devoted to Leadership and Development of Leadership Skills was conducted by two professional trainers Vilik Yedigaryan, Docent of the Public Administration Academy of the RA and Ruzanna Shahinyan, MA of Psychology of the Yerevan State University.











 

27.10. 2009
In support of the US National Democratic Institute the Women’s Leadership Forum Coordination Board organized the tenth training of the Women’s Leadership project.
The special guest of the event was Ms Wendy Elliott, a volunteer adviser of the Canadian Executive Services Organization who was on mission in Armenia as a fundraising trainer. She started her presentation with sharing the experience of her life. The training was delivered by Anoush Begloian, the Deputy Director of the Armenian Association of Public Relations. The training devoted to Public Speaking was mainly focused on the development of public speaking and effective communication skills with participants. The training proceeded with a case study. The participants had the opportunity to watch a video presentation of successful speeches which they were later suggested to discuss and share their opinions on.

The members of the Women’s Leadership Coordination Board participated in a roundtable discussion on Armenia and Turkey relations organized by NDI. The members of the Board who represent political parties in the Board expressed their respective parties’ standpoints on the issue and took active part in the discussions along with other representatives of the Board.











     

 

 

 

26.01.2010
On January 26, NDI held the eleventh session of the Women’s Leadership Training Course devoted to Campaign Organization.

The session commenced with guest speakers presentations. The special guests of the event were Sargis Avetisyan, the Head of the Solidarity Movement and Armen Khachatryan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine and Moldova.

Sargis Avetisyan thanked NDI for organizing the event, encouraged the participants to be actively involved and spoke about his professional activities in the past.

Armen Khachatryan started his presentation by speaking of the traditional role of women in the Armenian society and encouraged the participants to be active in the civic and political lives of the country. Armen Khachatryan also spoke about his past experience as the Head of Karen Demirchyan’s pre-election campaign in the end of the 90s and introduced the main functions and duties of their campaign headquarters.

The training was conducted by Gegham Sargsyan, NDI Country Director. During the session the participants were introduced to the basics of Campaign Organization. The training covered such elements of campaign organization as strategic planning of meetings, organization of campaign chapters, volunteer recruitment, internal communication, campaign calendars and fundraising techniques.

16.02.2010
On February 16, the NDI held the twelfth session of the Women’s Leadership Training Course devoted to Election Code.

The special guest of the event was Dr. Jatinder Cheema, USAID Mission Director in Armenia. Dr. Cheema delivered a speech by expressing a pleasure to be present at the event. While encouraging young women’s active participation she said that women’s promotion is one of the priorities of the US Government and USAID Mission particularly.

The training on Election Code was conducted by Harutyun Hambardzumyan, the It’s Your Choice NGO President and Nune Manukyan, the It’s Your Choice Coordinator and a professional trainer. Following the theoretical part of the training the participants were assigned to group works and held role plays. The event hosted approximately 25 women ranging from 18-30 years old and representatives of the Women’s Coordination Board.
